oh hey - it’s me ‘n the man, the legend, and downright insanely nice Ted V Mikels! I got me a few goodies (the brand spankin’ new Astro-Zombies M4 - Invaders from Cyberspace, an Astro-Zombie bobble_heads, and a copy of the Drive-In Delites) and got to talk a bit w/he (and the lovely Shanti)…I’d meet him once years ago ‘n attended several events here in Vegas where his films were shown (even though I’d missed the most recent ones regrettably), but this gentleman is the real deal ‘n exactly what ya want in a cult movie auteur…now if only I could trick Cinematic Titanic into bringing their live show of his proto-Charlie’s Angels spy flick The_Doll_Squad to town…

BILLIE BOOM BOOM

saw this again @ the Sci Fi Center (on a double bill w/Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS no less!)…originally it was supposed to be Supervixen but their copy was damaged, so this got voted as replacement…am I a dork that I always want it to have a happy ending?
p.s. Haji’s real first name is Barbarella? hmm, that sounds slightly questionable!

lobby card for Ted V Mikel’s Astro Zombies

I was actually lucky enough to be in the same room (well, a small theater) as Miss Satana herself back in the early/mid 90s at a Ted V Mikel’s tribute they held at the good ol’ Huntridge here in Vegas…she only took a couple questions from the crowd, but she still looked quite radiant & gave off an aura of humility and class (ok, maybe I was geekin’ out a bit)…personally, I prefer Ted’s Doll Squad which features Tura in an ensemble that’s a bit of pre-cursor to Charlie’s Angels, but Astro Zombies seems to be the more ‘iconic’ of the two!

one of the koolest events I’ve been to still…circa early/mid 90’s (when more of this type of thing seemed possible in Vegas-and the Huntridge was still operational)…not only did they screen all three films, but Ted V (world’s nicest ‘n heppest auteur) did a lengthy Q & A and Tura Satana (who starred in his features ‘The Doll Squad’ and ‘Astro Zombies’) also spoke briefly…plus Ed Wood’s former flame, actress/songwriter Dolores Fuller was in attendance too! (didya know she wrote like a dozen Elvis songs?)
